New Delhi (29/05/2022): The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has warned the people not to share photocopies of Aadhaar with any organizations citing its misuse.

The authority has suggested the use of masked Aadhaar which displays only the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number that can be downloaded from UIDAI’s official website.

“Please avoid using a public computer at an internet cafe/kiosk to download an e-Aadhaar. However, if you do so, please ensure that you delete all the downloaded copies of e-Aadhaar permanently from that computer,” said the release.

However, a day later today on Sunday the government withdrew its press note cautioning citizens on sharing Aadhar card details with any organisation to prevent misuse. In a new press release, the government cited possibility of ‘misinterpretation’ as a reason to withdraw it.

The move comes after many social media users questioned this ‘much delayed’ notice pointing that they have already shred their Aadhaar at so many places and if it wasn’t safe why didn’t government say that initially itself.
