New Delhi, 20/06/2023: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is set to host a high-level conference Tuesday to discuss public health preparations as many states battle a heatwave.
Dr VK Paul, an NITI Aayog member (health), as well as officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the Director General of Health Services, will attend the conference.
Arrangements will be made at every level for the protection of common life. We want to ensure no one does of a heat stroke,” Mandaviya said.
This follows the death of at least 68 persons in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia between June 15 and 18 due to blistering heatwave conditions.
Heatwave/severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist in isolated areas over eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana for the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Following that, the weather service predicts a cooling-off period.
Meanwhile, maximum temperatures are expected to dip by 3-5°C over Madhya Pradesh and eastern India during the next 4-5 days.
