New Delhi, 28 December, 2016: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel today felicitated the Junior Hockey World Cup winning team at his official residence. The Junior Hockey World Cup 2016 was recently held in Lucknow where India clinched the title defeating Belgium 2-1. It was for the first time that a host nation won the coveted trophy. Under the guidance of coach Harendra Singh and leadership of captain Harjeet Singh, the Indian team won the title after a span of 15 years.
During the felicitation ceremony Goel said, āEach player of the winning squad will get Rs. 3.70 lakh. All of them are a source of inspiration for the youth of India and Iām sure they will be equally good as part of the senior team in futureā.
Interacting with the media, Goel stated that he was extremely delighted with team Indiaās win after 15 years and the nation is proud of them. India recently won the Asian Champions Trophy both men & womenās team (defeating Pakistan & China respectively)ā.
Indian eves had also won bronze in the recently concluded Under-18 Womenās Asia Cuip. It is evident that India has been performing brilliantly in hockey and 2016 has been great till now. Goel encouraged the players and stated, āWe are proud of you all and my Ministry will do the best to provide best facilities for youā.
