UP Congress spokesperson Thakur Dhirendra Singh joins BJP ahead of assembly election on Sunday

UP Congress loses its leader to BJP ahead of assembly election when Thakur Dhirendra Singh joined BJP in presence Keshav Prasad Maurya, state president in Lucknow on Sunday. Singh is likely to contest from Jevar assembly constituency. Singh was UP Congress spokesperson. Earlier in 2014, Ramesh Chand Tomar another Congress candidate from district Gautam Budh Nagar had joined BJP before general elections. A senior Congress leader said it will have no impact on the election at all.

Singh said he was associated with the party for past 30 years. During Bhatta Parsaul incident, Singh accompanied Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi from Pari Chowk to the village on his bike and came to lime light.

“I was elected chairman of Nagar Nigam, Rabupura Greater Noida in 2001. I contested 2012 assembly polls from Jewar constituency and bagged 59,000 votes however I lost to BSP’s Vedram Bhati,” said Singh.
