Sushil Kumar Shinde rules himself out of Presidential race, UPA may go with Dalit face Meira Kumar to counter Ram Nath Kovind

New Delhi, June 20: Sushil Kumar Shinde ruled himself out of the race for the next President of India after his name circulated along with Meira Kumar as possible UPA nominees for the Presidential Election 2017. Shinde dismissed the reports that his name is being considered and said, “I don’t see any scope in this. This is impossible… no question of this.” Earlier in the day, some sources in the Congress party suggested that the party might pick former Minister of Home Affairs Sushil Kumar Shinde or first woman Speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar as UPA’s Presidential nominee to counter NDA’s nominee Ram Nath Kovind.
Sources in the Congress party today hinted that the UPA might pick either Sushil Kumar Shinde or Meira Kumar (both Dalits) to counter the Dalit card played by the NDA for the next Presidential Election 2017. According to the reports, while Shinde might help Congress party get the support of Shiv Sena, Kumar might help to rope in JD(U) in Bihar.
