The Union Public Service Commission has recently released the UPSC Civil Service Exam 2017 notification in Feb. 22. The notification invites applications for various IAS, IFS and IRS officers in the central government departments. This year, only 980 officer vacancies would be filled by the UPSC Civil Service Exams, the lowest in the last 5 years. The reduced number of vacant posts indicates a tougher competition than usual. Every year thousands of candidates write the UPSC Civil Services Examination to get a chance at the elitist government jobs in the country.

There has been some shifts in the normal pattern. The UPSC has proponed the Preliminary Examinations for its prestigious Civil Service Examinations. While in the previous years the preliminary exams were held in the month of August, this year the prelims would be in the month of June. The same was notified well in advance in the calendar released by UPSC in December as well as in the notification released on February 22.
