New Delhi, 28th July 2023: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), the US chipmaker company, announced on Friday that it will invest $400 million over the next five years to create its largest design centre in Bengaluru. AMD’s Chief Technology Officer, Mark Papermaster, verified the news at the annual semiconductor conference, which began on July 28 in Gujarat.

AMD stated that the design centre in Bengaluru would open by the end of the year and that it would create 3,000 new engineering jobs within five years.

Papermaster said, “Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide.”

The new 500,000-square-foot complex will be AMD’s latest extension to its presence in India. It will bring the company’s total number of offices in the country to ten. AMD already employs around 6,500 people in India.

Papermaster also stated that AMD will expand its research and development capabilities in the country. The company’s chips can be found in everything from home computers to data centres. He stated that they are also developing an artificial intelligence chip.

Other speakers at the event were Foxconn Chairman Young Liu, Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, and Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal. Micron has previously announced a $825 million investment in Gujarat for a semiconductor testing and packaging operation.

The ‘SemiconIndia 2023’ event, held by the India Semiconductor Mission in collaboration with industry and industry organisations, intends to establish India as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacture, and technology development.

The event was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
