Trees are a boon to the humans as those are the very basis of providing oxygen, without which the living beings just cannot survive. Therefore trees are necessary for our living and more the trees, the better the life as trees not only provide us oxygen but help in a variety of ways in carrying out different chores of  not only human life but they provide  accommodation and shelter to a variety of birds and animals in their trunks, roots or shades. There are at least 30 ways in which trees are used for our good in our daily life, leaving aside very common uses like providing greenery, shade from Sun and rain, food, fruits, oils, clothing, housing, water, medicines, conservation of water, checking erosion of earth, providing different kind of  wood for furniture and other purposes, attracting a variety
of Flora and Fauna to please mankind. It is thus a crime to cut a tree as it provides life to so many different varieties  of living beings. So, do not cut any tree but if , per force, you have to cut a tree for some cause,  then plant at least ten plants in lieu of one in and around that area but take care and ensure that all the ten grow into trees after plantation.
Planting trees is a philanthropic act as the trees normally out live the persons who plant those trees but are used by posterity when they get fruits or various other benefits and bless those noble souls who planted those. It is thus a blessing in disguise but you never know it may even help you during your life time as well. Till today people remember Sher Shah Suri who got  planted fruit trees all along the Grand Trunk Road which provided not only the shade to the passers by but also fruits to sit down and relax. What a great idea which earned him blessings even after his death.
Dehradun is a beautiful historic town in lovely Doon valley which is famous for its greenery, moderate climate, attractive picturesque tourist places, colourful and sweet “Lichi” fruit and fragrant “Basmati Rice”. The valley had been a seat of learning and penance and can boast of a mystic ancient past and is considered a paradise for retired persons with its calm, cool and green environment with so many places of pilgrimage around. That is why a number of learned saints and sages come here to deliver their discourses to spread the message of love, Peace and brotherhood but lately all these beautiful things are vanishing and need to be preserved to bring back Dehradun to its old glory. Dehradun was known for greenery which was provided by trees but those are being cut left and right  in the name of development. So we should give top priority to the planting of trees.
There are certain laid down norms for development besides keeping the areas green but trees are being cut in large numbers in the name of development and it is no wonder even the Parade Ground which comes under ‘Parks and open space’ and including which, the greenery of the town works out to 3% against 10%, normally required,
needs to be developed as proposed earlier into a beautiful green Park with facilities for practice of sports, Play ground for children and variety of other functions.  It is a crime to make it a concrete field.
They in their ego forget that Dehradun is a closed valley and has its own climate. Even the present increase in pollution is affecting its nature as in winter one can see the fog and mist clouds hanging as the pollution created by the smoke etc cannot go up in the atmosphere. The more the pollution becomes, the more it will remain lower and may hurt the eyes and make breathing difficult. Let us think ahead and save our environment from deteriorating further.
As you all know planting of trees is a philanthropic act and a selfless service to the society. There are many philanthropic societies in the town are offering free plants to enable to carry out this noble gesture. Please join hands and in this noble cause and plant at least one tree by all of you, if not more during this period. Posterity will bless you when they take advantage of your trees. Trees help keep our city clean. Trees play a vital role in sustaining
the natural and human environment. Trees absorb carbon dioxide in the process of growing, thereby helping to keep the air clean. Trees reduce pollution and global warming. Plant trees in parks, colonies, schools and homes. They help in keeping the atmosphere clean, beautify the environment, provide shade, fruit, flowers and leaves. Plant trees
in great numbers for their nutritional and medicinal value, for fodder and fuel. Diversify tropical forest products and develop greater efficiency in the use of tropical timber resources. If  per force you are made to cut a tree, Plant at least ten trees within or around the area to compensate for the damage done. Trees are a boon to the humans as those are the very basis of providing oxygen, without which the living beings just cannot survive. Therefore trees are necessary for our living and more the trees, the better the life as trees not only provide us oxygen but help in a
