Vehicle distribution event by #RajivGandhi Foundation
The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation commemorated Shri Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary on 20th August 2016 by distributing specially designed motorised vehicles. Shri Rahul Gandhi, Trustee of the Foundation handed over the keys to 101 differently-abled young people from 17 states. The distribution event was organised at Jawahar Bhawan, New Delhi as part of the Rajiv Gandhi Access to Opportunities Program and the Foundation’s silver jubilee celebrations.
The distribution event is organised annually as part of the Rajiv Gandhi Access to Opportunities program. Initiated in 1992, the Foundation has supported over 2400 differently abled young people across 25 states and 5 Union Territories till date. The enhanced mobility has helped them access employment and education opportunities; become financially independent; and gain dignity and respect in the society.
The Foundation adopts a detailed beneficiary selection process. This includes verification of applicants by partner organisations and detailed scrutiny by the Foundation’s team. The final selection is done by the Program Committee, chaired by Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar and comprising of experts and representatives from industry and civil society. The Foundation receives support from various organisations for this program.
Shri P. Chidambram, Trustee, Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Chairman Program Committee, Shri Deepak Chandra, Secretary of the Foundation, past awardees, volunteers and staff members of the Foundation also participated in the event.
