New Delhi, 29 September 2022: Rouse Avenue Court, a special CBI court has sent Vijay Nair, the Delhi government’s communications in charge to five-day custody.
Yesterday, Nair, a friend of Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister, was detained by CBI as part of its investigation into the Delhi liquor policy corruption case. According to the CBI’s FIR, Arjun Pandey, a friend of Sisodia, previously procured 2-4 crore rupees in cash from liquor entrepreneur Sameer Mahendru on behalf of Nair.
The federal agency had told the court that Nair had formatted his phones and claimed that he was uncooperative during questioning.
They further said before Special Judge MK Nagpal that his cell phones have been confiscated. Vijay Nair had formatted his phones. He was communicating via the highly encrypted Signal app. It is challenging to get all the data. He wasn’t cooperative when being questioned, therefore we arrested him.
Consequently, the Delhi government criticised the arrest and claimed that Nair was detained while overseeing the party’s communication strategy for Gujarat.
They further claimed in a statement that the arrest of Nair by the investigation agency was part of the BJP’s “ongoing attempt” to undermine the AAP and thwart its campaign in Gujarat.
“We strongly condemn these unconstitutional and illegal methods being adopted by the BJP. All allegations against Vijay Nair and AAP leaders are false and completely baseless,” they said.
