Vikas shot thrice on chest, fourth encounter killing in three days over Kanpur case

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), July 10, 2020: Dreaded criminal Vikas Dubey was shot dead in a police encounter in Kanpur on Friday morning. The incident occurred soon after media vehicles tailing the STF convey were stopped at a toll plaza on pretext of checking.

As per officials, Dubey was killed as he tried to flee by snatching the police weapon. Indeed, social media has been abuzz on speculation as to how such a dreaded criminal with over 60 cases and five lakh bounty, wasn’t handcuffed.

Sharing details of the encounter, in which Dubey was killed, Prashant Kumar, UP’s ADG-Law and Order informed that several policemen were also injured in the incident.
“3 sub-inspector, 1 constable & 2 STF commandos were injured during the incident. In this case, so far, 3 people have been arrested, 6 accused killed, 7 people sent to jail (under section 120B IPC), &12 wanted criminals still absconding,” Kumar said.

Later, the hospital staff informed that there condition was stable. “The condition of the 3 injured police personnel is stable; bullets brushed by two of them. Vikas Dubey had 3 bullet injuries on the chest and one on his arm,” Dr RB Kamal, Principal of LLR Hospital in Kanpur told media person.

The circumstances which led to Dubey’s killing such as the vehicle turning over as well as the criminal once again attacking 6 police staff, have raised various questions among public.

Meanwhile, wife of constable Sultan Singh who lost his life in an encounter at Kanpur’s Bikru village on July 3, Urmila Verma expressed her satisfaction over killing of Dubey. “I’m satisfied.
But now how will it come into fore as to who were backing him (Vikas Dubey)? It could have been unraveled by questioning him,” Urmila told reporters.

It may be noted that this happens to be the fourth encounter related to Kanpur police firing case, in last three days. In first encounter, Vikas’s aide Prabhat was killed in Kanpur, followed by killing of Amar Dubey in Hamirpur and Bauva Dubey in Etawah. In all these cases, officially it has been claimed that these criminals were shot dead while they tried to flee by attacking the police.
