Violence against dalits increased after Supreme Court verdict on SC/ST atrocities act alleges LJP

New Delhi¬: Lok Janshakati Party (LJP) MP and son of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Chirag Paswan on Friday said that after Supreme Court¬¬’s ruling on SC/ST Atrocities Act 1989 violence cases against Dalits has been sort up and police have not been registering FIRs.

‘As the Supreme Court struck down immediate arrest of accused under SC/ST Atrocities Act, the violence cases against Dalits have been increased in villages areas. Even police did registering FIRs of dalits, said Chirag Paswan while addressing a rally at his residence in Delhi.
Excited with the NDA government move to bring an ordinance to restore and strengthen the atrocities act, he said, ‘I¬ thanked to the government that they have agreed on our demands and it is our victory.’
While speaking in the Parliament on Thursday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that the government will bring an ordinance to restore the atrocities act and overturn the SC ruling.
In March 2018, the Supreme Court struck down the immediate arresting of accused clause booked under SC/ST atrocities act and said police will conduct a small investigation before arrest. SC argued that this act is widely misused by the dalits.
The ruling led nationwide outcry and dalits observed Bharat Bandh on April 2 where more than 10 people have lost their lives.
Demanding restoration of the act, LJP recently urged the Union government to bring an ordinance to overturn the SC verdict else they will support August 9, Bharat Bandh announced by dalit organisations.
LJP is an ally of NDA government and party has two MLAs and six MPs in Bihar.
