New Delhi, 11th May 2023: Officials at the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) have warned that Cyclone Mocha forming over the Bay of Bengal would likely intensify into a severe storm by Friday.

Several units of the Indian Coast Guard have been tasked to be ready to carry out rescue missions in case of large-scale damage in the Bay of Bengal region. The depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal has now moved about 510 km west-southwest of Port Blair and is expected to move north-northwestwards to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by midnight.

IMD also assured that the Indian states in the region, including Odisha, Bengal and even Jharkhand, will not have much of an impact since the winds would move towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts. The conditions are expected to the rough in the seas, while rainfall is likely across the North Eastern region.
