New Delhi, 07th July 2023: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the wrestling federation of India’s president, has been summoned to the Rose Avenue court in Delhi on July 18 for alleged sexual harassment of multiple athletes.

The court ruled that there was enough evidence to proceed against the defendants. This comes as on June 15, Delhi Police issued a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan, a six-time MP, charging him with sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, and stalking. The chargesheet was issued in response to allegations from multiple female wrestlers, and the delay sparked international outrage.

Aside from this case, another FIR was filed against Singh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on charges made by a minor wrestler. She was one of seven female wrestlers to accuse Singh of sexual harassment.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has rejected all allegations of sexual misbehaviour, even issuing a combative statement. He risks up to three years in prison if convicted. According to one of his aides, the legislator “will continue to cooperate with police and will respect the court’s decision.”
