USA, 28th July 2023: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has announced the launch of video messages on WhatsApp. With this new feature, WhatsApp users can now record and share short, personal videos straight in their chats. The new feature is similar to popular audio messages, but with a few differences.

Instant video messages, similar to WhatsApp’s voice messaging function, will allow users to respond to chats in real time with up to 60 seconds of recorded video content. WhatsApp has confirmed that video messages will also be protected by end-to-end encryption.

Fir people wondering what this feature is actually used for, WhatsApp has provided some intriguing use cases. WhatsApp stated it could be about “wishing someone a happy birthday, laughing at a joke, or bringing good news.”

A video message is as straightforward to send as a voice message. Users can effortlessly convert to video mode in a chat by tapping and holding the record button to film their personalised video message. WhatsApp users will soon be able to lock and record hands-free movies by swiping up.

The new Video Messages feature is now available. Video messages have already begun to be rolled out, and users around the world can expect to see this feature in their WhatsApp app in the coming weeks.

The announcement of the new functionality follows Meta’s Q2 results, which showed excellent growth. For the second quarter in a row, Meta has outperformed forecasts.

The increase in Meta’s revenue has been ascribed to improved advertising reach as a result of AI and Instagram Reels. The release of Llama 2, Threads, Reels, additional AI products, and the highly anticipated debut of Quest 3 in the autumn are all on Meta’s near future roadmap.
