New Delhi (India), 21st April 2023: ‘Keep in Chat’, a new function that allows users to save the message thread before it vanishes, was recently released by WhatsApp. Long-pressing a message will give users the option to save it, but only with the sender’s consent.

This feature, dubbed a “sender superpower” by WhatsApp, allows the sender to choose whether to permit the recipient or other users in the chat (group) to save a specific disappearing message.

In an official statement CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “Anyone in a disappearing message thread can long press on a message to keep it. The sender will be notified if it was saved and can decide if it stays or remains a disappearing message.”

There may be the occasional voice note or important piece of information you wish to save even though this additional privacy layer prevents messages from getting into the wrong hands. To make this work, the sender must be informed when a message is kept and have the power to override the decision.

WhatsApp said, “If you’ve decided your message can’t be kept by others, your decision is final, no one else can keep it and the message will be deleted when the timer expires. This way you have the final say on how messages you send are protected.”

Your saved messages on WhatsApp will be shown with a bookmark icon, and you can view them in the Kept Messages folder, arranged by chat.

According to WhatsApp , the new functionality will roll out globally over the coming weeks. The exact dates have not been revealed yet.
