Will End Support for Cortana on Windows by late 2023, says Microsoft

New Delhi (03/06/2023): Microsoft has stated that, beginning in late 2023, it will no longer support its virtual assistant Cortana as a standalone app on Windows.

According to a support page, this change will only effect Cortana on Windows and will remain available in Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Microsoft Teams rooms.

The ending of Cortana on Windows is hardly surprising. Microsoft revealed its new Windows Copilot tool during its Build conference in May, which will reside in your taskbar and use AI to help you do everything and more that Cortana, this includes content summarisation, changing material, asking questions, modifying computer settings, and more.

Microsoft wrote, “Instead of clicking the Cortana icon and launching the app to begin using voice, now you can use voice and satisfy your productivity needs through different tools.”

In 2021, Microsoft announced that it would discontinue support for its Cortana app for both Android and iOS devices.

Cortana was first released on iOS and Android in December 2015.The software was intended to connect Windows 10 PCs and mobile phones, but it never gained traction as Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri took the lead.
