Gujarat, Sept 20th, 2022: In another pre-poll promise for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that he will restore the old pension scheme if elected to power in the state.
Accusing BJP of making life difficult for the elderly by deleting the pension policy, Gandhi promised that Congress will bring it back as it is the right of government employees who are the backbone of our nation.
“By abolishing the old pension, the BJP has made the elderly dependent from self-reliant. The government employees who strengthen the country have a right: The old pension”, Gandhi posted on Twitter.
He further said that Congress has already reinstated the old pension scheme in Rajasthan and Chattisgarh and they will do so in Gujarat as well if they are voted to power.
Congress’s promise is eye-catching since thousands of employees in Gujarat recently held protests demanding the re-introduction of the old scheme.
The Gujarat Assembly elections are due in December this year and Congress is seeking to wrest power from the BJP in the state.
