With incessant heavy rains, Delhi breaks record of 10-years

New Delhi, 09th July 2023: Heavy to extremely heavy rain has been forecast for Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). According to the IMD, a western disturbance prevailed across northern India yesterday, resulting in an intense stretch of rain, including the season’s first heavy rain in Delhi.

Waterlogging caused traffic congestion in various areas of the national capital. The city received 153 mm of rain in 24 hours, the most in a single July day since 1982.

Heavy rain continued to fall in Delhi and its surrounding areas today. Waterlogging and power outages were also reported in some areas of Gurugram.

In addition, seven individuals were died in rain-related accidents in India in the last 24 hours, according to the authorities. Further severe rains are forecast in various Rajasthan locations, including Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, and Dausa.

After landslides and flash floods closed many roads in Shimla, Sirmaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, and Solan, the weather service issued a “red” alert for seven Himachal Pradesh districts.
