Mumbai, July 16, 2023: A shocking incident occurred last month in Mumbai’s Bandra, where a 27-year-old woman tragically drowned in the sea near Bandra Fort. The distressing video of the incident has recently surfaced on social media, stirring emotions among viewers.

According to officials, Jyoti Sonar was swept away by a powerful wave during a high tide at Bandstand on June 9. The incident unfolded as Jyoti was sitting on a rock with her husband, Mukesh, attempting to capture a photograph. Meanwhile, their three children watched from a distance. In the heart-wrenching video, the children’s anguished screams can be heard as the massive wave engulfs their mother.

The video has quickly spread across various social media platforms, generating widespread attention and sympathy.

Upon receiving alerts from bystanders, the police rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, it took a 20-hour rescue operation conducted by the Mumbai Coast Guard to locate Jyoti’s lifeless body, which was recovered on June 10.

In his statement to the police, Mukesh revealed that he was fortunate to be saved when a kind-hearted man pulled him back to safety. However, despite his desperate attempts, Jyoti was unable to withstand the strong current and was swept away by the forceful waves. “I lost my balance and we both slipped. A man held me while I grabbed my wife, but she could not be saved,” Mukesh recounted with sorrow.

The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers that can arise near the sea during high tides. The circulation of the distressing video on social media further amplifies the need for caution and awareness when engaging in activities near the water.

The Mumbai community mourns the loss of Jyoti Sonar and offers condolences to her grieving family during this difficult time.
