New Delhi, July 12: The Goa police rescued a woman, who was locked in a dark room for 20 year by his parents for her “abnormal behaviour”. When the cops entered the dark room, they found her naked. The woman, reported to be in her fifties, was reluctant to move out of the dirty room. The only medium to contact the outside world for her was a window, through which she was served food and water by her family. The rescue operation was carried out by Goa police on Tuesday after an NGO alerted them.

An NGO called ‘Bailancho Saad’ informed police about a woman who was held in a dark room for last two decades. The NGO came to know about the woman through an email sent to them by a person who claimed to have seen the woman. When a team from the Women’s Police Station raided the house, they found the woman. She was locked in a dark room of her parents’ house currently occupied by her two brothers and their family members.

“When the police team entered the room, they found that the woman was naked and was reluctant to move out of the room which is located on the backside of her parent’s house,” the official told PTI, adding she was confined in the dark room for almost 20 years. According to cops, the family confined her in a room after she returned home finding that her husband already had a wife.

She was briefly married to a man from Mumbai, but returned home soon after finding that he was already married. “Her family members locked her in the room after she started behaving abnormally after her return from Mumbai,” the official said. The woman was taken for medical treatment by the police. No arrest has been made in this case so far. The police has launched an investigation and recorded the statement of family members.
