WOMEN EXPRESS THEIR ANGER AT AAP, BJP FOR SOARING PRICES OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES AT ‘HALLA BOL’ RALLY

NEW DELHI, April 30—Senior Congress leader and ex-MLA Shri Mukesh Sharma, mounting a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP, said both these parties were responsible for the soaring prices of essential commodities in the Capital. He said unchecked price rise has broken the back of the common people as due to the unholy alliance of the AAP and the BJP with hoarders and blackmarkeeters, prices of dal, vegetables and other essential items have hit the roof, making them beyond the reach of the common people. He said the poor people were fed up with the price rise, but the Government is in a deep slumber, as it has done nothing to check price rise. Shri Sharma said before the elections, both AAP and BJP had promised to the people that prices would be brought down once they are elected to power, but despite the BJP coming to power at the Centre and AAP capturing power in Delhi, prices continue to soar, to make the lives of the people miserable. He said both BJP and the AAP were parties of the rich and the powerful, and were anti-poor. Shri Sharma said big industrialists and blackmarkeeters had funded the the BJP and the AAP during the elections, and they were being rewarded now as prices of all items have soared sky high.
From 4 p.m onward, thousands of women, carrying “chakla-belan” in their hands, and men with empty plates and spoons, reached the “Halla Bol” rally venue. They also shouted slogans against the BJP and AAP, such as “samay hai parivarthan ka—Congress ke samarthan ka”, “AAP, BJP ka dekho khel—mehangi sabji, mehangi dal”, “Kejriwal-BJP ka dekho kam—tootti sadake, naali, sewer jam” etc. The Congress candidate for the Nawada ward MCD bye-election Shri Satpal Sethi was also present. Shri Mukesh Sharma also expressed his anger at the price by beating empty plates. Thousands of Congress workers and local residents participated in the Halla Bol rally, including youth and local traders. They were all angry with both the AAP and BJP for letting the people down with false promises. People were upset with the AAP and the BJP as roads and streets in their areas were broken, sewer connections have not been given and the nallas were filled with dirty water and filth which were posing serious health hazards to the people. The local people were of the opinion that lakhs of people were living in these colonies due to the development works carried out when Shri Mukesh Sharma was the local MLA for 20 years.
Shri Mukesh Sharma said all development works in Delhi have come to a total halt during the past 25 months as no new project has been started. He said people in unauthorized colonies were living like in a hell hole. He said roads were broken with huge craters, garbage has been piling up everywhere with the threat of outbreak of an epidemic looming large, sewers were filled with dirty water and drinking water supply was very scarce as people live a miserable existence. He said the local MLAs has not done anything to improve the situation as people have not seen his face for the past many months. The pensions of the old, widows and the handicapped have been deliberately withheld, and due to the pressure of the land mafia, work on the 200-bed hospital has been stalled. He said due to the direction of the local MLA, work on a beautiful park that was to come up at Om Vihar Sanitary Landfill Pit-2, has been stopped. Shri Sharma appealed to the local people to support the Congress candidate in the coming MCD bye-election to ensure proper, speedy development of the area.
