World Academy of Higher Education Hosts Summit on Future-Ready Skills and Sustainable Development in New Delhi

October 10, 2024, New Delhi: The World Academy of Higher Education and Development (W-AHEAD) hosted its Higher Education Summit on October 5-6, 2024, at the India International Centre, New Delhi, coinciding with World Teachers’ Day. The event was inaugurated by Swami Mohan Rupa Das, President of ISKCON, and attracted a distinguished array of scholars and professionals.

The summit featured two key panel discussions: “Empowering Youth with Future-Ready Skills for Peace, Harmony, and the Future of Work & Entrepreneurship” and “Sustainable Development Goals: The Impact of Higher Education on Community Development.” Notable speakers included: Prof. Shyam Narayan Pandey, Chancellor of Global Open University, Nagaland; Prof. CS Dubey, former Vice Chancellor of Kumar Mangalam University; Prof. VK Goswami, former Vice Chancellor of Sangam University; Dr. Prerna Gaur, Director of NSUT, New Delhi; Er. SN Tripathi, Regional Executive Director (Hydro), NTPC; Dr. Sunil Abrol, Senior Advisor at the World Academy of Productivity Sciences
Others from leading educational institutions and industries.

Dr. Utkarsh Sharma, Pro Chancellor of Global Open University, delivered the welcome address, while Prof. PB Sharma, President of W-AHEAD, presided over the summit. Opening remarks were provided by Prof. Priyaranjan Trivedi, Executive Chairman of W-AHEAD.

In his address, Swami Mohan Rupa Das commended W-AHEAD for exploring the vital role of higher education in fostering a promising future for humanity. He emphasized the need for higher education to not only support industry through technological advancement but also to integrate ethical and moral values, particularly in the context of today’s digital age. He called for education that fosters spirituality and good deeds, drawing parallels from epic narratives such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana.

Swamiji underscored the importance of selflessness, ethical conduct, and relentless pursuit of excellence as outlined in the Bhagavad Gita. He also presented the Fellow of the Academy awards to several esteemed educators and corporate leaders for their outstanding contributions to society.

The summit, organized by IIEE and W-AHEAD under the leadership of Er. Dinesh Kumar and Dr. HRP Yadav, focused on the imperative of transforming universities into engines of innovation, sustainability, and peace. Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi remarked, “We must ensure that higher education institutions not only impart knowledge but also shape the future of our youth, our nation, and the world.”

In his remarks, Prof. PB Sharma emphasized the need for transformative leadership in universities, advocating for a focus on integrating education with research and fostering an environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship.

The summit concluded with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration on Higher Education and Development—“Preparing Yuva Ambassadors for Viksit Bharat@2047.” This declaration outlines a vision for holistic education, skill development, and environmental stewardship, aiming to create a more responsible and engaged global citizenry.
