New Delhi, 31st May 2023: Indian protesting wrestlers have now halted their plan to immerse the medals in the Ganga river as a part of their protests against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual assault allegations against him.

The athletes, including, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia have given a 5-day ultimatum to the centre, asking them to take action against Sharan Singh, who is also a BJP MP.

The athletes stopped their plan when requested not to do so by farm leader Naresh Tikait. This comes as the wrestlers also accuse the current government of treating them like criminals, as they referred to the crackdown by police authorities on Sunday.

While marching towards the new Parliament building, the wrestlers were allegedly manhandled and imprisoned in New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

The protesting wrestlers were charged with rioting, unlawful assembly, and other offences by the Delhi Police. The police also cleared the demonstration spot.
