NOIDA: In a bid to reduce the number of accidents on the Yamuna expressway, Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate N P Singh has written to the neighbouring district magistrates and police chiefs to step up security and check the rising number of vehicles on the expressway. The move comes after an RTI reply revealed that 319 people were killed in road accidents between the expressway`s launch in August 2012 and July 2015. The expressway, which connects Greater Noida to Agra, has witnessed a series of fatal accidents, mainly caused by vehicles driving above speed limit or tyres bursting. The RTI reply also stated that 2,194 accidents happened on the highway in the last three years. On the 165-km long highway, 15 police stations fall under the six districts of Gautam Budh Nagar, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Agra and Hathras. There are three toll collection plazas on the highway at Jewar, Mathura and Agra.
