Youngsters more vulnerable to Omicron, spread rate much faster claims study based on UK wave

India (22/12/2021): As India prepares to thwart the third wave of Covid-19 infections, the glaring numbers from United Kingdom paint a scary picture.
According to the last week’s estimation of United Kingdom’s Health Security Education, a startling number of 2 lakh people have been infected with the Covid-19 varient, Omicron.
The data shows that less than 70% of youngsters aged below 40 have been vaccinated with the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine, hence making the younger population more vulnerable.
Moreover according to the available data, Omicron variant cases are surging at a much faster pace as compared to the Alpha & Dalta waves. Close to 70,000 cases every day can be seen, which is the highest since the pandemic energed. Even the hospitalisation figures have surpassed the number of hospitalisations at the time of delta wave and is close to the figures of alpha wave.
According to the outbreak.info.data.gov.uk the cases of omicron wave in the beginning were much significant in comparison to Alpha & Dalta waves and were rather observed during the peak of the earlier waves. Cases have jumped up by 60% within a period of fortnight that is from 46,000 to over 73,000 cases every day.
The United Kingdom have approved for the use of 4 vaccines so far, Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford-AstraZeneca, Moderna and Janssen; three of which require two doses for uttermost protection.
