India is taking a global leadership position in renewable energy: Piyush Goyal, Union Minister

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal was addressing at the CII annual session 2017, Future of Globalisation: Can India Lead, while conventional energy sources such as coal are seeing low growth, he said that, India is taking a global leadership position in renewable energy with rapidly declining costs.
Talking about the issue of shortage of coal, he said that, we encourage the collaboration of stakeholders of the coal and power sectors to bring in fair chances for all, eradicate corruption and provide every Indian affordable and quality, 24×7 power for all. Presently in our nation, there is no shortage of coal for power generation and would provide more power to the nation in future

He further said that, UJALA scheme would go a long way in providing the ‘Power for All’ target throughout the nation. UJALA has provided a big momentum to LED selling in India and also less power consumption in whole nation, he added .
UJALA scheme is aimed to provide LED bulbs to domestic consumers with a target to replace 77 crore incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs by March, 2019.
