LT. GOVERNOR SHOULD CALL ALL PARTY MEETING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF SCARCITY OF WATER – DR. HARSH VARDHAN

Galgotias Ad

New Delhi, April 19th.  BJP Delhi Pradesh President Dr. Harsh Vardhan has demanded the Lt. Governor of Delhi that he should call all party meeting to discuss the problem of scarcity of water before the start of summer season. He should especially call former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in this meeting so that he may explain on what grounds he had promised to supply 680 liters of water per day to the people of Delhi.

Although, the people of Delhi are being served water bills at increased rates but in many areas, the people are not getting even drinking water. Due to this, the problem of law and order has arisen in the slum clusters, unauthorized colonies etc. Some days ago, a woman was killed in fight over getting water. Experts have estimated that in this summer season the people of Delhi will have to face the problem of scarcity of water every day. Hence, it is necessary that Lt. Governor should now call all party meeting to find out a solution of the problem of scarcity of water.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan told that according to the Government sources everyday 45 complaints of scarcity of water, supply of polluted water, supply of sewer mixed water, arbitrary behavior of tankers are being received by public complaints room.  During the Aam Aadmi Party rule on an average, 100 complaints were received every day regarding the problem of water supply. At present the DJB claims to supply 847 mgd of water every day.

The reality is that the water treatment capacity of Chandrawal plant is 90 mgd, Wazirabad 131 mgd, Haiderpur 216 mgd, Nangloi 40 mgd, Bawana 20 mgd, Bhagirathi 110 mgd and Sonia Vihar 140 mgd only. These Water Treatment Plants do not work to its full capacity at any time. At best they treat 500 to 600 mgd of water on daily basis. Additional 100 mgd of water is procured through Rainywell, Tubewell etc. This way the total supply of water per day in Delhi is between 600 to 650 mgd. Out of this 40 percent water is lost in theft and the Jal Board terms it as leakage. According to the data of DJB, only 60 percent people of Delhi are supplied water by Delhi Jal Board. The rest of the people depend on the tanker mafia and the private water suppliers.

In area like Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, Shahjahanabad etc. people crave for even a bucket of water. Every year, the Government frames Summer Action Plan for water and power but such plans are never implemented. Lt. Governor should take serious steps to implement the Summer Action Plan, demanded Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
