When I was District Magistrate of a distict that was part of a princely state before independence,I enquired thatwhy there was no degree college at the district headquarters while the same Maharaja opened a Degree College at Kashi?I was told that the late Maharaja used to say that it would be perilous to give education to the local peasants otherise it would become difficult to rule them.Same is the policy of today’s ruling classes;they have destroyed the entire public education system of rural India.
