10-year old from Kerala Develops AI app to identify eye diseases with 70% accuracy

New Delhi (India), 28th March 2023: Leena Rafeeq, a 10-year-old girl from Kerala, has developed an application based on artificial intelligence (AI) that uses an iPhone to uniquely scan for eye diseases and other conditions. At the age of 10, Ms. Rafeeq developed the application, which she has named “Ogler EyeScan.”

She posted a video demonstration and an explanation of how her application works on her LinkedIn account .

She claimed that her application uses “advanced computer vision and machine learning” to analyze a variety of parameters, such as light and color intensity, distance, and look-up points, to locate the eyes within the frame.”

“It also determines whether the eyes are precisely positioned within the scanner frame and if there are any issues with light bursts.” she added.

After the appropriate scan is taken, trained models are used to diagnose potential eye diseases or conditions like cataracts, pterygium, arcus, and melanoma.

She was commended for accomplishing this feat at such a young age by a large number of users, who were left extremely impressed with her innovation.
