The Greater Noida administration today freed 150 acres land of a residential project from encroachment by farmers in Durai village, an official said. About 25 farmers have been arrested for obstructing the construction work, subdivisional magistrate (SDM) Amit Kumar Singh said.

As builders of Wave Hi-tech City had won the case regarding land acquisition and compensation given to farmers in both the High Court  and Supreme Court but still farmers were protesting and obstructing possession of the land, so this  something not to be done  they need to understand” he said.

“Farmers even don’t  have any  stay order from any court, so the district administration has no choice except  clearing  land  from encroachment and hand over the possession to the allottee,” the SDM said. On Saturday, 150 acres were cleared of encroachments and handed over to the builder, Singh said. Farmers had sowed crops on 50 bigha  land, which was also cleared, the SDM said. “The farmers are demanding additional compensation of 10% payment on the developed land, 120 square metre plots for landless farmers and also employment for their children,” Singh said.

“We have told them that these demands have been forwarded to state government, who will take a final call on the issue,” Singh said. Singh said that the district administration is trying to help farmers in all possible ways. However, the administration cannot allow encroachment on the notified and sold land, or creating any disruption in maintenance of law and order” the SDM said.
