Bengaluru, 22nd May 2023: The first session of the newly established Karnataka Assembly will be held today in Bengaluru.

Today’s agenda is to elect a new Speaker for the house after the newly elected MLAs have taken their oath. The session is scheduled for the next 3-days till May 24.

Congress leader RV Deshpande will be the pro-term speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly for the ongoing session. This comes as leader Siddaramaiah was elected as the state CM for a second time in this year’s Assembly elections.

The Minister had earlier confirmed that the first cabinet meeting held was to issue the necessary orders to implement the 5 guarantees promised by the party before the elections. The annual cost of fulfilling the 5 guarantees, that include free electric power, monetary assistance to the females, free food grains, assistance to the educated unemployed and free travel for the females will cost the government Rs.50,000 crores annually.
