5.2 earthquake strikes Afghanistan, tremors felt in Delhi

New Delhi, 28th May 2023: Mild tremors were felt across Delhi and other parts of the National Capital Regions (NCR) after a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on Sunday.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake of 5.2 was reported near Fayzabad, Afghanistan at a depth of 220km from the surface at about 10:20am today.

Residents across Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad felt increasing tremors around the same time. The northern states of Jammu and Kashmir also experienced the effects of the earthquakes.

Local residents took to social media to report the same, after which official government agencies confirmed the phenomenon. Other neighbouring regions of Lahore and Islamabad also reported of the same.

No damage to life or property has been reported yet, with the tremors in Delhi being under 3 magnitude on the Richter scale, while the ones in Pakistan were a bit stronger and ranged till 6.3 on the scale.
