As many as 22 children from across Delhi NCR, including those belonging to under-privileged sections of the society, have sent in their entries that have all been displayed for the art lovers to see. About 50 paintings are on display at the gallery. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof Prem Singh, senior artist and former principal, Chandigarh College of Art, by lighting the lamp. Speaking at the inaugural function Prof Singh appreciated the efforts made by the organizers for promoting child artists. “There can be no greater service to the cause of art than holding such free exhibitions. Children are the best artists as they paint what they feel unlike adults who are trained to paint. Rather than teaching children how to draw and use colours, we all must learn from children,” he said. Over the next three days, senior professional artists like Manoj Kachangal, Anup Chand, Shubhra Chand, Sheshdhar Pandey, Seema Pandey, Varsha Lad, Vazda Khan and noted sand artist Col Ronnie Chhibber will educate the visitors on their art works. The paintings will be on display from Dec 27-Dec 30, 2016 from 11 am to 6.30 pm. To encourage child artists, each one of them will be given a participation certificate. This non-profit activity has no entry fee and of each painting sold, 50 per cent amount shall be forwarded to the artist and the remaining will be donated to social organisations working for the welfare of children. “This is the first such event being held in Delhi-NCR and we wish to make it an annual affair. To undertake activities to promote art and artists has been my dream for long,” says Ar Atul Gupta, founder, Rangmudra. Gupta informed that most established galleries do not give space to budding artists owing to a rule which states that an artist must have some specified number of shows in her/his CV before approaching them. “This is a big impediment for an artist and through our venture we hope to remove it,” he adds.
