Hidden Hunger would be reduced through mass movement: Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Union Minister

India has one of the world’s highest demographics of children suffering from malnutrition. On the occasion of World Hunger Day, Akshay Patra foundation hopes to create a sustained momentum for a Nourished India, Educated India.
Following that, Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development during a conference organised by Akshay Parta Foundation in New Delhi said that, more than a quarter of children in India, among the highest in the world are malnourished. National Family Health Survey (NHFS) suggests that the quality and quantity of food that many of India’s children consume is not good enough.

A child may consume food with empty calories, a phenomenon known as hidden hunger. The lack of essential nutrients can have an irreversible impact on the child’s overall development, including delayed motor development and impaired cognitive function, leading to poor school performance, she added.
Conference concluded with the pledge for endeavour to make it a mass movement to significantly reduce hidden hunger.
