New Delhi: In a press statement, Delhi Metro Commuters’ Association has expressed its solidarity with the protesting Delhi Metro Employees.  “We strongly supports the demands of the Delhi Metro employees, who are being denied their rightful wages by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC),” the statement reads. “DMCA supports the strike of Metro employees and demands that any striking employee should not victimised. Their demands regarding increase in wages should be immediately fulfilled.”

Metro employees have been agitating to get their “low and highly exploitative” wages increased, since the beginning of the year. The Metro officials have, however, been dismissive of their demands. “Authorities are paying no heed to the demands nor taking any pro-active measures to alleviate their exploitative working conditions,” the statement further reads.

“Superior officials and executive employees receive salaries which are at par with their counterparts in Schedule A Public Sector Units (PSUs), the non-executive employees receive salaries which are equal to those received by their counterparts in Schedule C PSUs. It is condemnable that such a disparity exists despite the glaring injustice of the system, due to apathy of metro officials and government.”

It should be known, the statement reads, that the DMRC is already reaping huge profits by fleecing its passengers, while it denies even rightful wages to employees. “Apparantly, DMRC only seems to be benefit the Japanese bank – returning of loans to which has been cited as reason for an exponential increase in metro fares earlier this year.”
