New Delhi: Affordable houses for all by 2022 is a very progressive and ambitious programme ever taken up by the Union government but at the same time is also full of difficulties. The government is trying to bring all private and foreign investors on board to make the scheme successful, said Union Minister of State (independent charge) Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday.
He said this while addressing a conference organised by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) at FICCI.

The Union government has taken slew of measures to curb the prevailing distortion cases in the real estate sector and empowered the buyers with laws like the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA), establishing Affordable Housing fund with a capital of Rs 60,000 crore and so on.
Referring to the challenges of affordable house, he said, “The major problem for this programme is land. And the land is State’s subject and costly too. Till the states did not agree to provide the scheme will not work.”

He further said, “Post-independence there is a criminal negligence in urban planning and today it has reached to a pathetic state. However, building houses will not only the problem, we need to also develop the infrastructure, where people can live.” He asserted.

For the succession of the programme the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs need cooperation from all private, government agencies and states. “We have no crunch of funds and we are constantly trying to raise more and more funds and connecting the dots to make the scheme successful.” Puri added.
