Romanian National arrested for ATM card cloning in Noida, Accused sent to Police Remand!

Noida: A Romanian citizen was arrested from Savitari market, Sector 18 Noida for hacking HDFC Bank ATM Machine with a clone ATM card.

Accused was identified as Onciu Anexandru a resident of Vacea, Romania. During investigation it was revealed that he has been visiting India from past one year and this was his fifth visit to India.

The accused is a pro in hacking software. He use to hack ATM Machines by copying sensitive details from the ATM by attaching a chip with the ATM card use to collect private data. And with the accessed data he use to clone ATM and withdraw money from different accounts.

According to the Police, The Romanian National might have accessed data of more than 1000 ATM till now. Police has taken the accused on remand for further interrogation and accessing more details.

Meanwhile, Noida Police also had handover the CCTV footage to the Romanian embassy after explaining the reason of arrest. Police told that earlier the accused was not admitting his crime but the CCTV footage shown to him he admitted his crime.

Cyber Expert Anuj Agarwal told that the case of card cloaking and accessing of data was first reported in Meerut and had arrested 3 youths in this case. That time police had recovered a chip and camera from them. There after number of similar incident got reported in different district of the state.

But in Noida, this is the first ever incident of this type of cyber crime. Cyber Expert says hackers takes help of the skimmer device and pin whole camera to copy the detail of ATM card. Skimmer is a kind of magnetic blade that was mounted over the ATM and a pin whole camera was fixed over the key pad area. As any one insert his ATM card there detail got accessed and the camera use to capture the pin numbers inserted by the user.

Accused use to do online shopping from Romania because there is no OTP requirement. In India he only use to withdraw cash from ATM’s.
