NOIDA, (24/2/2019): Often the first-time visitors in Noida are intrigued with the roadsigns of Noida Film city, which fills them with curiosity of being close to some prominent movie-shooting destination. However, as one moves around the area, there are no shooting sets or Vanity vans but instead large numbers of TV antennas dominate most buildings.
And and it turns out, the Film City of Noida has nothing to do with Films but instead media houses.
This film City is part of New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) which prides itself as a planned city and is a part of the National Capital Region of India.
With the rapid development of Noida as an industrial hub, it also became house to some of the most prominent spots of the northern India. Whether the GIP mall, which for long remained the main shopping attraction for the NCR people or the Okhla Bird sanctuary, the Ambedkar park as well as Noida Film City situated at Noida sector 16A.
The Noida Film City was reportedly founded by Dr. Sandeep Marwah in 1988 and it slowly became a nice choice for shooting television serials, news and other entertainment-cum-education programs in Northern India. However apart for Marwah Studios and T-Series, there is still no big name from mivie production or direction field to have chosen this place to be it’s hub.
This film City however is home to a large number of prominent National news channel with wide range of news, views, and current affairs programs being shot here.
To learn more about the concept and how it has reached, where it is today, we decided to speak to the man who had conceptualised it at the first place.
When asked about whether the mission of creating a film city in Noida is completed or not? Dr. Sandeep Marwah, founder of Marwah Studios and Asian Academy of Film and Television said, “The film city was created to promote the culture of art and films in the region. With time it has developed into a Media city as well and is also providing jobs to thousands of people from across the region. Also it has been a platform for the artist of NCR region, where they can showcase their talents and progress in their life”.
“The overall mission of making a film city is completed as it is promoting films and media houses”, he adds.
Ten News also decided to speak to another person who has seen it all take shape in front of his eyes. Often called as walking encyclopaedia of Noida, senior journalist Vinod Sharma also shared his thought on the issue.
He said, “Shooting of several films of Bollywood has been done in Noida due to the film city. It has attracted many reputed media houses as well. It has created more jobs than ever before. And along with being a Film City it has also developed into a media city, where a large number of media houses are doing their work. So to say that it has given more to the media houses instead of film studios is wrong. It is completing its mission of promoting shoots and giving platform to the new talents”.
