Natya Vriksha organized World Dance weekend in National Capital in the wake of World Dance Day on 29 April

New Delhi, (27/4/2019): Natya Vriksha organized World Dance weekend curated by the Padmashri Awardee and a world renowned Bharatnatyam Dancer Geeta Chandra. It is a two day event in which workshops, lectures and dance performances were conducted.



Natya Vriksha’s World Dance Day celebrations have acquired a pan India legitimacy, and this 15th edition of the World Dance Day celebrations promises to be bigger and better. Workshops, lectures, biographies and performances by young dancers offers invaluable fare for both the dance community and to all those others interested in arts.

One of the very interesting feature of the event is a lecture by Pavan K Varma on the topic: The glorious legacy of Indian Culture: Challenges and opportunities.

While talking to Ten News Geeta Chandran said, “The young dancera festival has become a showcase for young talent. Each year i try to change the format of the observance, sometimes it is lectures, other time it is films, discussion, seminars, workshops, demonstrations. This year the festival is bigger and more exciting”.

While talking about challenges to an artist she said, “we need to change the mindset of the people to overcome this fear of old generation that art is just wasting time. People can be anything a dancer, actor, painter, and many more, its not just about what the society thinks but art is something that gives pleasure to a self. And people nowadays should share this concept with the younger ones so that when they grow up, they should think it as time waste”.
