Infant body recovered from granary, mother connection suspected as she shares illicit affair

Greater Noida (22/08/2019) : A 24-year-old woman has been detained on August 21 in connection with the death of her 8-month-old infant who was missing from last 10 days. Later the decomposed body of the infant was recovered from the granary of the house in Gopalgarh village in Jewar. As per the police officials incident came in light after the family sensed a foul smell coming from the granary and then the body was recovered from a sack.
The accused woman and her husband had also filed a missing complaint of their child on August 11. The woman, identified as Hema has been living with her husband Rohtash, with her two children Deepak and a four-year son, and her in-laws. She is a homemaker while her husband is a private driver.
Ajay Agarwal, station house officer (SHO), Jewar police station, said, “on August 11, Rohtash returned home and found his wife crying. She informed him that someone had abducted the boy when she had gone outside to feed the animals. She said other family members had gone to attend a Bhagwat Gita programme in the village.”
After the family filed the complaint, the police had launched a search operation but could not trace the infant.
However, on Wednesday around 8.30 am, Rohtash and his other family members noticed a foul smell coming from the granary and recovered the body.
The police questioned all the family members separately and found Hema’s statements were not corroborative and her activities appeared suspicious. “During interrogation, she broke down and revealed that the infant had fallen from the cot while playing and died. She had stuffed the boy in a bag and put it in the granary, fearing the family members would scold her for negligence,” the police official said.
He furher told that the body has been sent for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death and medical reports were awaited. “It appears the woman is still hiding something. We have got leads that the woman is having an illicit affair with her brother-in-law and was jealous of his wife. It is being suspected that she allegedly wanted to frame her sister-in-law in the whole incident as now we will be suspecting her. However, we are investigating the case from all the angles.” said a police official.
