HCL Foundation, NOIDA Authority celebrates World Clean-up day, pledges to work towards clean city

Project Clean NOIDA, an initiative of HCL Foundation, NOIDA Authority and Decathlon today jointly celebrated World Clean-up day. The celebrations included an array of engaging activities including a cleanliness drive that was organized at the Noida Stadium in Sector 21 – a hub for youngsters and sports enthusiast. The initiative was aimed at sensitizing the youth on the negative impact of littering and waste mismanagement.
The event began at 7:30 am, where more than 2000 citizens participated in a ‘Ploggathon’ in front of the seven gates of Noida Stadium, covering an area of 2 kms. During the ploggathon, 1000 kgs of wet and dry waste was collected and disposed by the Noida Authority.
This was followed by a cultural event featuring a Zumba performance, stage play based on theme of waste management and the impact of littering and finally formation of human chain pledging to put an end to usage of Single Use Plastic (SUP) in NOIDA.
The event was addressed by Ms Ritu Maheshwari, CEO, NOIDA Authority who was also the chief guest. In conclusion, Ritu Maheshwari announced the winner of the ploggathon which was followed by a celebratory drum circle performance and unveiling of a wall mural of noted Indian sportsperson.
Speaking on the occasion, Ritu Maheshwari, CEO of Noida Authority said, “World Cleanup Day is a global platform that is trying to help the planet by combating the solid waste problem. It is wonderful to see so many people willing to volunteer and come together to get rid of trash and manage the waste problem of the city.”
Commenting on the initiative, Ms. Navpreet Kaur, Director, Project Clean NOIDA said, “NOIDA is HCL’s birthplace and our connect with the city is emotional.”
