New Delhi (21/11/2019): On Wednesday evening, members of trans community from Delhi and from other international cities came to Jantar Mantar and lit candles in the name of those who lost their lives and faced violences in the name of trans-violence.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance takes place on 20th November every year to honour the transgender and gender non-conforming people whose lives have been lost to acts of transphobic violence.
As an Advocate, Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honour Rita HesterIt, established this day in the US in 1999. Since 2008, an annual report has been published detailing the trans people who have been killed.
Speaking to Ten News, few of these shared that their community is still facing harrassments every single day and adding a comment one person said, “We know the people want wellness of ours but they have to know that the Trans Bill 2019 has to be taken back as it would bring disastrous situations in the lives of our community members all over India.”
