KYS DEMANDS JUDICIAL INQUIRY INTO POLICE ATROCITIES IN JAMIA MILIA ISLAMIA UNIVERSITY !

New Delhi (16/12/2019): Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) and other student organizations protested today in Delhi University’s North Campus against the numerous police atrocities that we unleashed on students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) who were peacefully protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act and NRC. KYS and other student organizations also gathered in large numbers at Jantar Mantar today to protest against the police atrocities.

According to them, It is shameful and unjustified how peaceful protests by JMI students were disrupted by violent and high-handed police backlash that has resulted in a large number of students being hospitalised in Holy Family Hospital and other nursing homes. It is shocking how a large number of students were detained in South Delhi police stations till the early hours of the morning today.

KYS expresses strong condemnation of the brutal attach on JMI students and Media persons by the Delhi Police. It is important to note the statements of JMI’s Chief Proctor, Wasim Ahmad Khan, who claimed that the police took no permission from the University authorities before entering the campus, and that the atrocities on students was uncalled for. It is shocking to find eye witnesses report how the Delhi Police forced students to evacuate hostels, attacked them in the JMI library, and allegedly even switched off the lights in the women’s hostel and indulged in molestation of women students. The police crackdown, especially indiscriminate firing of tear gas shells has led to massive infrastructural damage in the JMI library etc.

In an extremely high-handed manner the Delhi Police closed off certain metro stations to preempt supporters from other universities from gathering in support of JMI’s students. KYS sees a sinister design in plain-clothed personnel moving with the Delhi Police and indulging in violence in the JMI campus. Several eye witnesses accounts further process point to vandalism indulged in by Delhi Police personnel; indicating that the police has tried to wrongly attribute the vandalism to the protesters who had peacefully gathered.
