New Delhi : Protests in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) held at Jantar Mantar in the city on Wednesday. Different saffron organizations & groups organized the protest who gathered and raised slogans referring to the “Azzadi” Slogans that are quite common and raised during anti CAA & NRC protest.

At least 1,000 supporters of CAA formed a human chain to showcase their support to the Act. A few citizens who claim to have no political affiliation, gathered at the Jhansi Rani chowk, sitting on the side kata, writing slogans like ‘We support CAA’, ‘Vande Mataram’ and ’Hum Ladenge’.

The also raised some controversial slogans like “Bhurah ke jaise denge azzadi”.  “This rally was organised to counter the fear-mongering of Islamic and leftist organisations about the CAA and the NRC and their bizarre statements that the NRC in combination with the CAA is designed to expel Muslims from India,” said a protestor.

“We welcome our persecuted brothers and sisters from across the borders with open arms. Let us come together and celebrate their homecoming.” said another protestor.

According to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014 following religious persecution there will get Indian citizenship.

Protests are being held across India ever since the citizenship bill was introduced in Parliament earlier this month. The bill was passed by Parliament
