New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit back at the BJP today after being labelled a “terrorist” in an outrageous verbal assault by Lok Sabha MP Parvesh Verma at an election rally in West Delhi last week.

Addressing reporters at a brief but emotional press conference, Mr Kejriwal asked how a person can become terrorist by helping poor and fighting against corruption.

Today I’m leaving this decision to the people of Delhi, whether they see me as a son, a brother, or consider me as a terrorist,” Kejriwal said to reporters.

“I have put my life on the line for the country,” he said. He also said he went on a hunger strike against corruption despite being diabetic. “I’m a diabetic. I take insulin four times a day. If a person with diabetes is on insulin and doesn’t eat anything for 3-4 hrs, they collapse and can even die. In such a situation, I have done hunger strike against corruption twice, once for 15 days and then 10 days,” he said.

AAP had filed a complaint with Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer against Verma demanding registration of an FIR against him for allegedly calling Kejriwal a “terrorist”. Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh said that they would approach the Election Commission to take action against the remark.

Earlier Election Commission ordered the removal of Parvesh Verma from the BJP’s list of star campaigners for Delhi polls over his controversial statement claiming Shaheen Bagh’s anti-citizenship law protesters “will rape your sisters, daughters” during the poll campaign.
