EPCH hosts kite flying festival at 14 kite-making clusters on Mankar Sankranti and Uttarayan
14th January, 2022: Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) with the support of office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India organized Kite Flying Festival at 14 kite making clusters – Rampur, Bareilly, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Agra, Mathura, Hyderabad, Cuttack, Ahmedabad, Surat, Baroda, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Imphal on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and Uttarayan to celebrate “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” the 75th year of independence, informed Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director General, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts.
Rajkumar Malhotra, Chairman-EPCH said that Makar Sankranti being one of the most important ancient festivals is celebrated across the country with much fanfare and is associated with flying kites. The festival also marks the end of winter and beginning of the auspicious period of Uttarayan. The positivity generated through this event would help us in our endeavor to fight the current pandemic and keep our spirits high for the whole year.
Eminent member exporters, officials from the Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), artisans of the Kite making craft clusters demonstrated their kite flying skills. Kite making has been a traditional craft in India and has potential to diversify according to the changing trends. The national level designers and master craftpersons guided the artisans with new designs of kites. The training workshops helped the artisans produce kites of different designs with various themes under the close supervision of the experts.
AHMEDABAD
EPCH organised Kite Flying Festival with the support of office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and Nasrudeen Shah, Chairman, Gujarat Kite Manufacturing Association, Soma Bhai ,O/o DC(H), Ahmedabad, Burhan Kadri, Kite Manufacturer from Ahmedabad were present. Dignitaries also distributed the Pehchan ID cards to the artisans.
AGRA
Rajat Asthana, President of Handicrafts Exporters Association Agra and Munesh Gupta, Executive Member of Handicrafts Exporters Association Agra were present along with Parvez from O/o DC (Handicrafts) and Designer Gajendra and other craft persons were present during the kite festival.
BAREILLY
Kite Festive organised at Bareilly Kite Making Cluster in the presence of Mr. Asit Kumar, C.T.O., DC(H), Bareilly, Mr. Ranveer Singh, Designer, Mr. Manoj Kumar Saxena, Master Craft Person, Mrs. Shalu Saxena, President, NGO Ram Mohan Memorial Public School and artisans of the kite making design workshop.
CUTTACK
Following Dignitaries were present during the Ceremony. Ashok Kr Hota, AD (H) O/o DC(H) Bhubaneshwar; Ramanuj Bairiganjan, HPO, O/o DC(H), Bhubaneshwar; Sh Sachin Rai, National Design Centre, New Delhi; Kite manufacturers were also present from Cuttack. On the occasion 30 artisans along with Designer and Master Craftperson were also present.
LUCKNOW
Kite Festival celebration in Lucknow in presence of Mr. Virendra Kumar (Regional Director, DC (Handicrafts), Mohd. Razza Alam, AD-DCH, Mr. Sandeep Kumar Patel AD-DCH, Mr. Divya Prakash, HPO-DCH, Mohd. Shah Alam, Secretary Old Lucknow Kite Flying Association and the artisans.
MATHURA

EPCH organized the Kite Craft Festival at Prayagraj in presence of Ms. Tanaya Banerjee, Assistant Director (Handicrafts), O/o Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Prayagraj, Mr. Vishal Verma (HPO-DCH) present during the occassion and 30 artisans and Master Craftperson.
JODHPUR
Kite Festival celebreting in Jodhpur in presence of, Kiran V.N , Assistant Director, O/o DC (Handicrafts), Jodhpur, Mr. Hansraj Baheti, Member COA-EPCH, Dr. Bharat Dinesh, Member-COA EPCH and President Jodhpur Handicrafts Exporter Association (JHEA), Rajendra Mehta, Secretary JHEA, Ghanshyam Agarwal, EPCH Exporter Member, Dilip Kumar Designer, Sahil, Master craft person, alongwith artisans present during the program.

EPCH organized the Kite Craft Festival at Palanpura, Jhakatnaka, Gujarat. Chariman, Gujrat , Mahender Singh Meena, Assistant Director (Handicrafts), office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Ahmedabad present during the occassion and 30 artisans and Master Craftperson were also present.
