Mentally challenged Noida Brother – Sister facing life threatening situation, add woes to neighbours

NOIDA (23/08/2022): An allegedly mentally challenged brother-sister duo have been a cause of concern for an entire neighborhood in Sector-23 Noida.

According to a neighbour, who has also met with concerned authorities including Chief Medical Officer and police officials with a request of providing them proper treatment, such pleas are going unheard for long now.

While there has already been a checkup by competent authority, the Chief Medical Officer of the district has declared the brother-sister duo (Name withheld for privacy) as “severally mentally ill” and had recommended urgent medical help. Though none has been provided so far.

Not it is just causing grave harm to the affected individuals but also leading to growing concerns in the neighborhood. “We understand that this is a medical situation but same as all other disease it should be treated too. Leaving such severally I’ll people to fend for themselves and not attending them is a highly irresponsible behaviour by concerned authorities,” said a neighbour, citing anonymity.

She adds, “We have small children in our houses and the eating, dressing habits of these specially abled individuals is impacting their minds too. One of the individual also practices exhibitionism, hence it is becoming very difficult for people, specially children and adults to move around in the neighborhood.”

“We have been running from pillar to post and all different departments, officials have been informed about it, with a request to provide them adequate medical assistance but there has been no action so far, ” says another neighbour.

The immediate neighbours are of the view that in view of the deteriorating health of the brother-sister duo, necessary action at the earliest is the need of the hour.

A similar incident had shocked the city about a decade ago too, when two mentally challenged girls in a nearby Sector were left unattended and finally died due to hunger as they were not able to feed themselves. Hence, an urgent intervention of authorities in this case might help avoid similar mistake and may save two precious lives.
