New Delhi, 19 October 2022: Congress CEC Chairman, Madhusudan Mistry on Wednesday announced the new non-Gandhi Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka.
Mallikarjun Kharge has been declared the winner of the Congress presidential elections, according to Congress leader Pramod Tiwari.
According to Tiwari, “Mallikarjun Kharge defeated Shashi Tharoor by 7897 votes to win the Congress presidential election 2022. With eight times as many votes, Kharge won.”
Several congress leaders appreciated his victory. Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan Congress Leader also congratulates stating, “Mallikarjun Kharge won with a huge majority; a win of democracy. I congratulated him. I have faith his experience will benefit the party. 9000 elected people elected the President, this was never done before by any party. Opposition must be nervous today.”
While Tharoor suspected irregularities in the elections. In a letter to Mistry by Tharoor’s team, it was alleged, “Extremely serious anomalies in the way the election in the state of Uttar Pradesh was conducted are something our campaign wants to bring to your attention. You’ll discover that the evidence is overwhelming and that the election process in Uttar Pradesh lacks both credibility and integrity.”
According to the letter, what occurred in Uttar Pradesh “is on a whole different level.”
₹If the compromised process of Uttar Pradesh is permitted to stand, we do not see how this election can be regarded as free and fair. Therefore, we demand that all votes cast in Uttar Pradesh be discarded,” the letter added.
However, soon after, he took back the allegations, stating, “It was unfortunate that a strictly internal letter to the CEA was leaked to the media. I hope the clarification of the team ends an unnecessary controversy. This election was meant to strengthen the Congress, not to divide it. Let’s move on.”
Further, Shashi Tharoor also expressed his best wishes for success to the newly elected Mallikarjun Kharge.
“On October 17th, as a true celebration of inner party democracy, 9500 delegates of the Indies National Congress cast their vote in the elections for the office of party president,” Tharoor stated in a letter. In light of today’s judgement, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Shri Mallikarjun Kharge-ji for winning. I sincerely accept the party delegates’ decision as being final. Being a part of a party that enables its employees to perform their President duties is a privilege,” he added.
