Delhi LG inaugurates North-zone Vice-chancellors’ meet at Galgotias University

Greater Noida, 10 November 2022: The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has organized the North Zone Vice Chancellors’ Meet’ on November 10, 2022, at Galgotias University, Greater Noida. The theme of the Meet is ‘Internationalisation for Transformative Higher Education’.

The meet was inaugurated by Delhi LG VK Saxena. In his address, LG Saxena outlined the importance of focusing on the education model that can help provide and all round development for students.

“We have to strive towards a complete transformation that seeks to balance academics research, specialisation, skilling, personality development in a holistic manner that at the same time addresses the needs and requirements of every individual students and facility,” he said.

He further highlighted certain issues that needs immediate attention and pointed that Internationalisation of higher education in India should ensures recognition of our degrees abroad through a process of mutual accredations, degree recognition and credit transfer.

“This would ensure that are demographic dividend is utilised effectively and without any obstruction,” Saxena said.

Additionally, in countries that are facing demographic decline countries with larger population like Japan, Germany, Europe, etc. are suitable work places for our young graduates as well as speciality scholars in these directions strengthening our global initiative for academic network with additional linkages with institutions like ICSSR, ICCR, UGC, etc.

“Following is the promotion of academic and research collaboration to ensure that much needed push to research is provided through collaborations and institutions abroad that are already introduced. We should work towards these measures and ensure promotion of Indian Higher Education abroad with the focus on making India a receiver country of the students rather than their centre. Let India become the destination country for international students. I am sure with committed focus on the above mentioned and the theme of the conference ‘transformation of the Indian Higher Education for Aatmanirbhr Bharat’ will be sooner than later achieved,” he added.

Additionally, AIU President, Dr Suranjan Das also raised certain concerns in regard to internationalisation of higher education.

He said that the foreign universities need to go beyond metro cities to avoid geograhical imbalance. Also, every student should have access to foreign course and campuses so that students from different backgrounds can take advantage of it, to restore cultural divide.

“Internationalisation of higher education is not a brick and mortar question. Mere physical infrastructure is not the issue here. Studies have shown that establishment of foreign campuses will not ensure best practices of the foreign university. One needs to imbibe, while environment, atmosphere and academic climate developed by universities,” Dr Das said.

“Our higher education should prepare for foreign competitions. international education platforms as it is necessary to ensure that this competition occurs in a level playing field. There should not be a situation where one set of laws are for foreign providers and different rules for others,” he shared.

Delivering his address, Sunil Galgotia, Chancellor, Galgotia University said that it is an honour to host the first north-zone vice-chancellors’ meet by AIU.

“Today we are privileged to have some of the finest minds in the field of education representing most prestigious universities in India here at Galgotias University. We strongly believe that such collaboration which involves stalwarts from the field of education sharing the best practices, success story and challenges will not only upgrade the quality of education in the country but will ensure a healthy competition and drive up the student and faculty experience in academics and research,” he added.

The event was inaugurated by Lt Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena in the presence of Vinai Prabhakar Sahsrabuddhe, President ICCR and Former MP Rajyasabha, Prof. Suranjan Das, President AIU and Vice Chancellor, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Suneel Galgotia, Chancellor, Galgotias University, and Dhruv Galgotia, CEO, Galgotias University, Dr. (Mrs) Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, Prof Preeti Bajaj, Vice Chancellor Galgotias University, among others.
